Unhealthy Products of Open Burning
|
|
Smoke is made up of a complex mixture of gases and fine particulate matter that is produced when material is burned.
These byproducts of burning affect our health, the esthetics of our environment, contribute to exceedances of National
Ambient Air Quality Standards and may result in property damage. Smoke gets into our eyes and lungs, causing health problems
such as burning eyes, runny nose, and illnesses such as bronchitis. Smoke can also aggravate chronic heart and lung diseases
and trigger an asthma attack. The very young and elderly suffer the most from burning byproducts.
